The R Graph Gallery

R is a very powerful language for statistical computing and its graphics engine is just as good. But I think I am evangelizing to the wrong crowd.

What I really want to share with you is the R Graph Gallery, maintained by Romain François, an R expert and developer of various modules.

The gallery has acquired many features in the last years. It now has a tag cloud and a Javascript menu system at the top of the page that offers different ways to browse the collection. Visitors can rate each graph with a value in the range 0 to 100. There is also a search box, powered by Google, at the top right corner.

The collection currently has 161 graphs and each one has the companion R script to reproduce it. There is a module called RGraphGallery that can be used from within R to view any graphic in the gallery. I will like to try that but the link to download the code is broken.

A related alpha stage project is the R Movies Gallery which at the moment (July 2nd 2011) has only one AVI movie available (Metropolis Hastings trajectories). The first site linked in that page is not loading.

During your visit to this virtual gallery be ready to find two things: good eye candy and R knowledge.
